Japan Renewable Energy (JRE) announced today it held a ceremony to celebrate the start of operations of a 24.4-MW biomass power plant in Japan’s Ibaraki prefecture.

The JRE Kamisu Biomass Power Plant, as it is named, is located in Kamisu municipality. The facility, which uses construction recycled and forestry materials as fuel, is expected to generate 200 million kWh per year. This is enough power to meet the annual demand of some 45,000 local households.

Kamisu Biomass, which is now operated by GK JRE Kamisu Biomass, is selling its output to Japanese energy company TEPCO Power Grid Inc, a unit of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc (TYO:9501), JRE stated in its press release.

This plant is the company’s eleventh operational facility in the same prefecture, according to information on the company’s website.
